Mark Licari is a LA based artist known for his abstract and highly detailed drawings, paintings, and installations. He was born in 1977 in Los Angeles and received his BFA from California Institute of the Arts in 1999.
Licari's work is often characterized by a highly imaginative and surreal quality, with many of his pieces featuring hybrid creatures and otherworldly landscapes. He employs a range of mediums, including ink, gouache, graphite, and acrylic paint, and his work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in the United States and internationally.
Some of Licari's notable exhibitions include "Drawing Now: 8 Propositions" at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, "The Shape of Things to Come" at the Saatchi Gallery in London, and "The Future" at the Torrance Art Museum in California. He has also been commissioned to create site-specific installations for institutions such as the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
Licari's work has received critical acclaim, with reviewers often praising his intricate and highly original approach. In 2008, he was awarded a residency at the prestigious MacDowell Colony, and his work is held in several public collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation.
In collaboration with Goom, Licari translates his large-scale ink drawings to Goom’s signature silkscreen T-shirts and embroidered hats.
